Ship Skill and Ship-to-Ship Combat

Postby Barrel Rider » Mon Feb 11, 2013 1:02 am

Maybe I'm missing something, but on pages 48-49 in the Ship-to-Ship Combat section of the book, it makes mention of a Ship Skill that is used to determine ranges in ship-to-ship combat. It on these pages:

The ship has a base skill of its own, rather than depending on a character's skill, because of the various targeting systems. Ship skill is applied to all vessels, including enemy ships.

However, nowhere in the description of the ships in the core rules can I find a base value of this Ship Skill. Am I missing something somewhere? I can't help but believe this is my own oversight. Can someone give me a helping hand or keen eye?

Thanks so much.

Page 49, the Ship-to-Ship combat table. That table lists the Ship Skill for different attacks at different ranges.

Hope that helps.

Sorry for the second question, but am I correct in assuming that because Ion Torpedoes do not have a damage listed that they do the same amount of damage as Beam Weapons, but instead allow the crew to save on EU costs of running a ship?

For some reason, the damage for ion torpedoes is listed under the section for fireballs on page 48. Both ion torpedoes and fireballs do 1d6 x 10 damage.

Looking at the text, the positioning makes sense for narrative reasons.

I won't complain. I like the game, and I've seen bigger companies make worse mistakes in books I've paid more for.
