The New Adventures of Flash Gordon is also a childhood favorite of mine and has a proud place on my DVD shelf, alongside the 1930s Universal serials. Mongo is indeed a Mutant Future type of place of pocket kingdoms and varied terrain galore inhabited by assorted beast men, tech men, rock men (Neanderthals), fill-in-the-blank men -- all waiting to be conquered or recruited as allies by Our Heroes. Ming and his loyal vassals have the most advanced gear, but everyone resorts to swords, spears and fisticuffs when the thrusters hit the road.
