Mutant Future Miniatures?

Postby Dungeoneer » Fri Jul 15, 2011 8:35 am

Ok, so here's a question for ya: would anyone be interested in a line of printable paper miniatures that support Mutant Future?

Thanks to another set of forums, I'm very seriously thinking of getting into designing paper miniatures, but it seems like EVERYone does fantasy stuff. So I was thinking of supporting some other RPG genres that don't (in my opinion) get enough attention. I'm already working on some pulp figures, and I thought some post apocalyptic figures would be cool.

The problem here is the mutations. Oh sure, there's an actual monster list, and minis can be made of those without too much trouble. But PC's could be tricky. I guess the pure-strain humans would be pretty easy, but the mutants! There's...a nearly unlimited amount of mutation combinations that PC's could have.

So, would anyone be interested in Mutant Future miniatures, or is this just a dumb idea?

You could probably just look at the combinations of mutations that have a strong physical change (multiple arms, two heads, etc) and make one of each. I'm sure people would be happy with some that come close to their character, even if it doesn't match up exactly. A smattering of anthropomorphic animals/plants and a few androids could help too.

One Monk miniatures seems to be developing such a line already, although everything but the post apocalyptic warriors seems to have been coming soon for some time. You might want to poke around in the forums and see whats what.

Oh boy! Positive responses!

Yeah, that was what I was thinking about mutant characters--to cover the basics. Sounds like most folks wouldn't have too big a problem with that, which is good. I have known one or two players in my time who felt their figures had to just right, so I wanted to ask.

I have been getting kinda familiar with the One Monk forums lately, and I know which set you're talking about. I haven't found any more news on other sci-fi figures, but it's also very possible that I just haven't looked in the right thread yet. I have mixed feelings on various existing lines of miniatures. Some of them are in an art style I don't like, others don't seem to have the figures I want/need available. And while most are considerate enough to accept suggestions and requests, you never can tell just how soon they'll get around to producing them. From checking out discussions on various forums, I know I'm not the only one with these problems. So I thought it would neat to check into.

I'll have to look through my MF book again, but it seems to me that MF versions of typical fantasy NPC miniatures could be useful. You know, things like villagers, tavern staff and patrons, merchants, rulers/nobles, etc, could be just as useful as monsters, depending on your storylines and style of play. And, in my mind at least, they wouldn't look the same as their fantasy-genre counterparts.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll go brainstorm a little, and return with more news!
