Which doesn't quite work for subclasses. At that point they are subraces, which use different rules entirely.

If playing with AEC rules, and playing an Elf Fighter, you would get a Fighter subclass, not an Elf Subclass and a Fighter Subclass. However, if you were playing an Elf then you would get an Elf Subclass, and if you were playing a Elf Fighter/MagicUser then you would not get an elf subclass, but would get a Fighter subclass and a Magic User subclass.
