* The dotted lines in areas 17, 18 and the corridor near area 24 represent the tunnels under those areas.
* Areas 21 & 22 have rubble in them.
* The arrows in area 22 represent slopes leading downwards (the steepness of the slope is up to the DM).
* Area 27 b) is a pool of water.
* The lines between area 28 a) and b) represent steps (leading up or down is the DM's choice). There is an open pit in area 28 b).

Now it's time for another installment of a Friday Freebie map. This time it is a small cave network. Click to enlarge.

Image

Image

Design Details:
* The various lines throughout the caves are elevation lines.
* Areas 2, 10, 12, 14, and 15 have natural stone columns.
* An underground stream connects areas 4, 14, and 15. It is up to the DM if this stream is a regular tunnel or is completely submerged (a.k.a. an underwater tunnel).
* Area 13 has rubble.

Here is a revised version of the previous cavern map. There was a discrepancy with the "elevation" lines so I fixed it. Click to enlarge.

Image

Here is how I see the "elevation lines" working:
* The Basics: The water is flowing from top left to mid right. As for the "elevation lines", they represent a distance of anything from 1' to 5' (per line, there is no uniform distance since this is to represent the uneven floor of a natural cave system).
* Starting at the bottom of the map, the lines lead downwards (pretty straight forward at this point).
* Cave 4 has a slight hill in the centre (the two middle lines that flank the bottom and top of the number 4). The lines just above 4 b lead down to cave 8, as does the lines to the right lead down to cave 9.
* Caves 5 & 6 could be at a higher or lower elevation (whichever the DM chooses).
* Cave 9 has a hill in it. The most northern section of cave 9 is level with cave 10.
* The lines to the left of cave 11 lead up. The lines to the right lead down. The new lines in the side tunnel to cave 10 should align things up correctly.
* Cave 12 has two small mounds. The most northern and western line leads down.
* The lines of cave 14 lead downward (towards cave 11).
* The lines in cave 15 lead upwards from the watery entrance.

On a side note: I like the idea that the water that flows into cave 14 b is up higher on the cave wall so the water crashes down into the pool via a waterfall. To explore the source of this waterfalls will require hearty adventures who will have to travel against the current of the water to even find cave 15.

Tim

Here's this week's Friday Freebie. It is a dungeon/cave combo. Click to enlarge.

Image

Image

Map Details:
* Areas 2, 9, and 11 statues.
* Area 2 also has an altar.
* Areas 4 & 13 have columns/pillars.
* The shaded area of area 14 b represents a weakened floor which gives way to the cave that is underneath it.
* Areas 11, 21 and 25 have crumbled and collapsed into the nearby natural caves.
* The dotted lines represent the natural tunnels under the corridors.
* The arrows show the downward slope of the cave tunnels.
* Area 32 represents water which connects to an underground stream via the southern tunnel.

This week's Friday Freebie map was inspired by the 1st Edition AD&D DMG's Appendix A: Random Dungeon Generation. I would say that the map has a minimum of 80% randomness. I did make a couple layout decisions here & there, but the dice decided the layout for the most part. Click to enlarge.

Image

Image

Map Details
* Areas 1 & 30 have stairs leading to the surface.
* Areas 13/14 and 50 have one-way secret doors. There are one-way normal doors in area 26 as well.
* Areas 13, 19, and 21 each have a statue.
* There are covered pit traps in areas 26 and 37.
* Area 20 is an underground river. There may be a boat at either 20 a, b, or c -- it's the DM's call.
* Areas 24 and 41 have pillars.
* Area 29 has a cloud of poisonous gas.
* Area 48 has a pool of water.
