"You know by now that I'm not going to let you carry all your platinum in there all alone. If you get eaten by who-knows-what, someone's got to save it for you...." Leon draws his magicked dagger and his long sword and cautiously starts moving toward the ruined church. He watches the ground closely, making sure that the spots he places his feet are solid enough to hold him.

Turin, cleric

I'll come too, in case you encounter something undead, says the cleric as he makes sure his holy symbol is accessible and his mace is in his mitts!

The dwarf Balfa dismounts silently and makes ready to follow his companions. He strokes the snouts of Daisy and Flint gently and mumbles some soft words to assure the beasts he won't be gone for long. He grabs only his trusty battle ax and begins trudging towards the ruin.

Midday 230pm, as you finish dismounting and hastily tying up the mounts to a nearby stunted tree with draping strands of a dark green moss. The sun is having trouble breaking through the clouds today and a chill breeze kicks up intermittantly. The croaking of frogs can be heard quite regularly.

You enter on foot over the spongey ground toward the church-like building to get a better look. Tussocks of grasses grow wild as does the occasional thorny bush. Around the building now you can see less trees as it was once cleared you suspect.

Coming within 30 feet now you see the structure to be a small temple of antique architecture which gives the impression of being from an era bygone. It is built of a dark basaltic stone heavily encrusted with lichens that seem of coeval antiquity. It is rectangular in form, and has only a pointed front spire, no façade of pillars, and only a few narrow windows high above the ground. You approach the front of the building, but you can easily see a gaping hole in the roof on the east side. A set of large (10' tall) verdigris covered double doors are in front of you beneath a gothic archway. There is a carven lintel above the door itself, which has crumbled and splintered away, leaving only muted images that resemble frogs or lizards perhaps.

What are your actions?

Let the red dawn surmise
What we shall do,
When this blue starlight dies
And all is through.

"Wait! Maybe we should look about first. We might pick up some interesting details..." answers Zavenorrin while swiftly going around the building, moving as silently as possible.

Zavenorrin the Elf tries to be as quiet as possible sneaking through the tall grasses, and makes his way around the perimeter of the squat black Temple complex. The Temple is roughly 80' long x 40' wide. The rest of the party stands guard near the front entrance. They get a closer look at the verdigris covered double doors. Oddly, there does not appear to be any handles on the doors, and faint runes can be made out.

Around the east side you see a small paned green stained glass window high up. Around the back you see a dark wood door secured by a thick chain and a large brass padlock. The croaking sounds of nearby frogs continues, as does the intermittent breeze.

DM rolls:
Zavenorrin, 4
Monsters, 3
Neither party is surprised.

Zavenorrin the Elf sees coming from further behind the Temple, from out of the tall grasses and brambles, a couple large (6'-7') pale yellow Giant Toads taking giant bounds towards him. The closest one is 20' away and a bulbous bone white tongue protrudes from it's toothy maw. You catch glimpses of other Toads advancing behind them.

Next I will roll round 1 initiative, what are your actions? (The bulk of the party is 90' from Zavenorrin at this point, and can make any actions assuming he yells out or you hear a commotion, but some movement would be necessary as this is going on behind the building)

Let the red dawn surmise
What we shall do,
When this blue starlight dies
And all is through.

"Monsters here! Giant frogs! I could use some help!" yells Zavenorrin, not daring withdrawing his gaze from his foes. He then figures out that a spell might be in order before both parties close in. Putting all his concentration in it, he fixes the closest giant frog intently and invoke his magic energy in an attempt to put it to sleep.

[OOC: casts Sleep on the closest giant frog]

Turin, cleric

Giant frogs? says the cleric as he races to help the Elf with his mace ready. I was expecting something more devious!
