Day 21, Moldain, Thaumont 21st, high moors, late afternoonThe fog lifts as you set out for the day, the moors stretching out for miles in all directions. There's not a cloud to be seen, and you have no trouble finding your way north based on the sun's position in the sky. Occasional streams and ponds cross your path, and their cool waters bring you and your horses relief. You see ordinary wildlife but no signs of men or monsters.
As the day passes, a ridge begins to form on the horizon. As the sun starts to dip in the sky, the ground gently begins sloping down toward a river. Based on its size, you think it's the Volaga, the same river on which you started this whole journey. Across the water, the bank forms a steep escarpment, above and beyond which lies more hill country. At this point you see no easy way to cross the river. The current is too strong.
