As Nahin mentions the mirror, Durden nods and says "Yes, I have heard of such mirrors. They are usually employed as traps. Fairly harmless in themselves, but as you say, capable of enthralling an unsuspecting viewer. Usually that's the extent of their powers. Hmmm..." he pauses and then continues "Of course, the keep is yours. Occupy it as you will, you have certainly earned it. But I was going to mention, if you aren't interested in settling in just yet, I'd be willing to garrison your keep with a small contingent of men at arms. You would be freed from your tax obligation, and I would see to it that your keep is maintained in perfect condition. Waterdeep would be grateful for your assistance, and the favor wouldn't be soon forgotten."
He rises from his seat, "If you'll excuse me, I have a prior commitment. It's been a pleasure meeting you all." He nods and turns, and with a mumble and flash of light, his wand becomes a staff again, and he heads to the door, pausing to turn and say "Oh, where are my manners? You have a week to give me an answer. As I said, I'll have no hard feelings if you say no. Please let Master Seedius know of your intentions either way, and I'll be informed. It's been nice meeting you all. Good luck." And with that, he shuffles out and down the hall.
As you sit wondering what to do next, a young scribe pokes his head into the room and says "Magister Seedius has had something come up. He has asked me to see you all out, and answer any questions you might have. He will be awaiting your decision this week, after which time he will be leaving for the city for the winter. As the scribe turns to escort you out, he says "Oh, my apologies, he asked me to give this to you" and he hands you a piece of parchment. Unrolling it, it says "Please extend to the bearers of this document the utmost courtesy and accomodations as guests of Master Durden of Waterdeep. See to it that their stay is comfortable, and their bellies filled with your best crumblecakes and spirits." it is signed in flowing script by Seedius, Magister of Waterdeep. The scribe says "Your rooms await you at the Swinging Sword. It's in the market area. Best place in town." With that, he show's you the door. Dak and Grinkle are sitting outside, and seem to be drawing interested spectators gawking at such odd specimins in town. No one seems hostile to them, but rather regard them as objects of curiosity. Dak says "It about time. My belly iz rumbly. Dak need some food." Grinkle smiles at you all and patiently waits.
It's late in the day, you have a free pass for the Swinging Sword. Where to?
