Thanks for the replies, they're helping me a lot. Obviously I'm going to write everyone's nickname in the credit screen

Even if I don't answer, I'm writing down your (and also on an italian forum :P) preferences and ideas, just to see the better way to do it :P

After this weekend, we'll discuss other things about this game

Ok, now let's go with some discussion about the combat system!

COMBAT SYSTEM

This system will feature a battlemap divided in 5 foot squares, with tokens for PC and enemies. The heroes' tokens can be moved freely by the player, whom also can choose actions like attacking, casting a spell or using a Thief skill. The enemies will be handled by the CPU itself. There will be different kinds of attacks (slashing, blunt, piercing, claw, bite...) each one with its personal animation. The spells will also be animated. At the end of the animation, the damage will be shown above the target token.

  • Basic Hit dices or Advanced ones?
  • Stardard initiative or Indiviual?
  • Should the enemies morale be implemented?
  • Should mounted combat be implemented? (It's quite difficult i think)
  • Should the parry be implemented?
  • Should Two weapon combat be implemented?
  • Any idea I didn't mention?

I assume you will implement it, so the tokens can only move as far as the character's speed allows. ;) Hit dice depend on if you want a Basic or Advanced system implemented. Other than that, you should do everything the complex way, the computer can easily handle it. The simpler methods are only there to simplify book keeping and on the fly maths. :)

That's exactly what I was going to say.

basic or advanced HD? Either way, you better have a bunch of healing potions laying around for the first few levels. And why have a battlemat? I think it'd be neat to have an open 'sand table' set up where movement is done in inches....let the unhip figure that out! And that could open up the playing area and make it seem less restrictive?

I don't speak italian, but I don't see you mentioning turning undead, only that clerics can wear armour, unlike mages. ;)

As I said, this is all provisiorial, I'm just testing the text rendering (which will be antialiased) and the graphics. I'll fix all the textes asap everything else is fine

The font is Soutane-regular, but also Souvienne is very, very similar.

Hi all, I'm back again. So I decided to stick to the basic ruleset for this one (except for using d6 as Thief's hit dice: that poor fella deserved it!), with racial classes and so on. However, this time I need help on the graphical side: I need some icons which identifies the classes. Each one will represent its class throughout the game, and it must be as clear as possible. I've some ideas right now, but let me know what you think

  • Cleric: an enlightened christian cross? An angelic statue?
  • Fighter: A greatsword? Shield and sword?
  • Mage: An open book? A hand with a flame on the palm?
  • Thief: A dagger ready to backstab? A hooded cape?

With demihumans it's more difficult, and I really need help here

  • Elf: A burning sword?
  • Dwarf: A warhammer?
  • Halfling: the only thing I can think of is a poultry drumstick like in the Munchkin game, but I don't think it is a good idea XD

Thanks in advance for the help!

My thoughts:

  • Cleric sounds right (preferring the cross)
  • As does the fighter (preferring the shield and sword)
  • Mage is also good (preferring the book)
  • Thief is tricky. Perhaps a set of thieves' tools? The dagger could work. The cape might be too abstract.
  • Elf could be a book and sword, showing the dual nature of magic and fighting
  • Dwarf could be the warhammer. Maybe an pickax and hammer?
  • I agree that the halfling is hard. Perhaps a pipe? A hairy foot?
